1:59 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, Washington Street at Jefferson Street, a supervisory officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at an excessively high rate of speed and stopped the vehicle, the officer reports the operator appeared to be intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test, Eric J. Voudren, 38, of 18 King Street was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and speeding;
2:47 a.m.: vandalism, Hampton Ponds Playground, Old Stage Road, a patrol officer reports he discovered that a sign and a refuse container had been vandalized with graffiti;
3:02 a.m.: narcotics violation, Noble Hospital, Court Street, a caller from the hospital’s emergency department requests an officer to take custody of marijuana and other medication found in the possession of a patient, services rendered;
1:06 p.m.: animal complaint, Summit Lock Road, a caller from a Summit Lock Road business reports a pit bull dog on the property is barking at a worker and has him cornered, the responding officer reports that the dog is confined to the fenced area of the company and requests that an animal control officer respond, the responding ACO reports that the dog was transported to the municipal animal shelter;
2:06 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, Shepard Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a motor vehicle operating westbound on Franklin Street and saw that a passenger had a door open while the vehicle was in motion, the officer stopped the vehicle on Shepard Street and the operator said that his license had been suspended for non-payment of child support, the officer reports that a criminal complaint for operating with suspended license was filed and the vehicle was driven from the scene by a passenger who is a licensed driver;
3:34 p.m.: officer wanted, Russellville Road, a caller reports his neighbor shoots a shotgun at a target from his back porch and, although the complainant is not in immediate danger, he asks that an officer speak with man, the responding officer reports he spoke with a female neighbor who said that her husband is not home but acknowledged that he fires a .22 caliber rifle at a target from his porch, the officer advised that use of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling is prohibited, the woman said she would advise her husband when he returns home;
3:59 p.m.: larceny, East Main Street, a caller from an East Main Street discount store reports customer took a jacket from the rack and wore it as he exited the store without making payment, the officer reports the registration plate of the vehicle the man left in was recorded and the investigation is ongoing;
4:49 p.m.: recovered property, Boys and Girls Club, 28 W. Silver Street, a resident came to the station to report that an iPod she had reported to have been stolen at the Boys and Girls Club on Oct. 8 was discovered to have been misplaced and was found;
6:09 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Elm Street, a patrol officer reports a traffic stop, the vehicle’s registration was found to have expired and it was towed to the police impound yard;
7:27 p.m.: annoying phone calls, Crown Street, a resident came to the station to complain of harassing phone calls from a known party, the responding officer reports he called the suspect and left a message asking that she call him back;
9:18 p.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, Christian R. Lent, 35, of 656 West Road, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to stop for police, disorderly conduct and shoplifting by asportation, see story in the Wednesday edition of The Westfield News;
10:22 p.m.: motor vehicle violation, a patrol officer reports he encountered an apparently disabled vehicle, a routine check revealed that the vehicle’s registration had been revoked for lack of insurance, the plates were seized and the vehicle was towed to the police impound yard;
10:25 p.m.: breaking and entering, Riverbend Condos, 555 Russell Road, a caller reports returning home after being away for a few days and finding jewelry had been stolen, the responding officer reports that no point of entry was found.
