1:16 a.m.: accident, North Road, multiple callers reports a crash and that a vehicle may be on its roof, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports a utility pole was snapped by the crash and wires are in the roadway, the officer reports the operator left the scene, a search of the area did not reveal the operator and his father came to the scene to assist, the officer reports that the operator’s mother subsequently reported that she had heard from her son who said that he was not injured and was safe but was not going to talk with anybody about the crash, a criminal complaint was filed;
6:06 a.m.: assist other police department, Tannery Road, a Springfield officer requests assistance serving a warrant at a Tannery Road address, the responding officer reports the suspect was arrested and he filed a report to document the voluntary surrender of firearms by the suspect;
9:21 a.m.: breaking and entering, Fowler Avenue, a caller reports his son broke into his home to steal his car key and then took the vehicle, the responding officer reports the complainant said that he believes his son made forcible entry to his kitchen to take the key and then took the vehicle, the man said that he does not wish to pursue criminal charges but wants to obtain a protective order, the officer advised the caller of the procedure to secure a protective order;
10:03 a.m.: breaking and entering, Elm Street, a caller from an automotive repair facility called to report that a customer’s car was broken into overnight, the responding officer reports the company owner said that staff found a window of a vehicle which had been secure the day before had been smashed and the stereo was stolen;
10:33 a.m.: larceny, Fowler Avenue, a caller reports his son is removing the registration plates from his vehicle in order to attach them it to an unregistered vehicle, the man called again to say his son had left, the vehicle was stopped on North Road by a traffic enforcement officer, the car was towed;
11:40 a.m.: larceny, Ponders Hollow, representatives of an armored car service reports the theft of $24,000 in cash, see story in the Saturday edition of The Westfield News;
12:08 p.m.: disturbance, Elm Street, a caller reports he was assaulted, the responding officer reports one party said that he saw a person sitting in a parked car who he said had spat on him previously and so he approached to spit at him, the other party said that the first man slapped his vehicle and spat at him and when he exited his vehicle words were exchanged, the man said that he spat at the first man who then punched him, a witness supported the second’s man account and a criminal complaint was filed against the first man;
3:09 p.m.: suspicious activity, Bates Road, a caller reports she was informed by a neighbor of a tent which has been set up near the edge of a wooded are near her residence, the responding officer reports he located the unattended tent and left a note instructing the owner to remove it, the officer reports he will keep an eye on the situation;
3:27 p.m.: assist citizen, East Main Street, a motorist requests assistance with keys locked inside a vehicle parked at an East Main Street parking lot, the responding firefighters report entry was gained;
7:02 p.m.: assault, Yale Street, a caller reports that when she went to collect her child an altercation developed between herself and the child’s father which ended when he threw a cup of beer at her, Paul M. Royland, 32, of 87 Meadow St., was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in a domestic relationship;
8:58 p.m.: harassment, Bartlett Street, a resident came to the station to complain that her 17-year-old daughter is being bullied by a schoolmate at school and electronically, the responding officer reports the girl said that she has been pushed at school and has received harassing text messages, no charges were filed;
11:05 p.m.: fire, tin bridge, Ponders Hollow Road, a patrol officer reports a brush fire involves the dike and the railroad trestle, the responding firefighters report much of the fire which scorched about a half acre of ground had burned out and the hot spots were extinguished.
