I would like to comment about the proposed TAKING of the Wielgus land by the City of Westfield by eminent domain. As just a regular resident and homeowner I am concerned about the way this is happening. In the May 22 edition of Westfield News there were some disturbing points made by Councilor Adams. The first being this isn’t the first time the City has tried to take this property. He said six or seven years ago they tried to buy it but Alice Wielgus did not want to sell. Second it was PRIME land. Apparently the City couldn’t TAKE it back then but now because of the school project they finely have their chance. And they will only pay $260,000. for 33 acres which equals to less than $8,000. an acre – for PRIME land. That is STEALING. The reason I am bringing this to everyone’s attention is Mayor Knapik (who seems to be all for this)said there must be a public hearing. I want to know WHEN and WHERE so I can attend and voice my disgust at turning farmland (or any large open land) into a ball field and disapproval of the way this has gone about. The home and business owners of Westfield need to speak out against this because if the City of Westfield is allowed to take the Wielgus property what is to stop them from taking our land, our house or our businesses? Remember the Kelo v. City of New London case.
