SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield Vocational-Technical High School boys’ basketball team may not have had any reason to despise their latest opponent, but the Tigers got even.
Voc-Tech bounced back from a season-opening loss with an exciting 60-38 road win over Pioneer Valley Christian School Thursday night.
Matt Wood led Voc-Tech with 17 points, while Alex Stepanchuk chipped in 13, and Tim Shevchenko had 10. The Tigers improved to 1-1 overall.
“The guys played with great control and didn’t lose composure when things didn’t work out,” Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “It was great to get that first win, and the players’ confidence grew as the game went on.”
Voc-Tech will be rewarded with a long break as the Tigers do not play again until December 29 when they travel to McCann Tech.
Said coach Dulude: “Hopefully we can find momentum again after the holidays.”
