4:07 a.m.: assist worker, Broad Street, a post office employee went to the fire department to request assistance because the padlock on the gate at the post office has been changed, the responding officer reports the lock has not been changed but is frozen, at the request of the lead postal employee whose bona fides were strictly confirmed the lock was cut off to allow access for a truck which had to be unloaded before 4:30 a.m.;
9:08 a.m.: motor vehicle violation, North Road, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating with an expired inspection sticker and stopped the pickup truck, the officer reports the operator’s license was found to be suspended and a criminal complaint was filed;
10:46 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Woodmont Street, a caller reports untreated icy sidewalks, the responding officer reports he issued warning notices for snow removal at nine Woodmont Street addresses and one on Westminister Street;
10:54 a.m.: city ordinance violation, Dartmouth Street, a caller reports untreated icy sidewalks in front of Moseley School, the dispatcher reports she contacted a representative of the building department who said that he would make phone calls to determine who is responsible for the sidewalks adjacent to the vacant school;
12:34 p.m.: larceny, Westfield Vocational-Technical High School, 33 Smith Ave., a school resource officer reports he was advised of a past larceny at the school, the SRO reports a student said that he had left his thermal jacket in the locker room during basketball practice on Jan. 8 and found it gone when he returned;
3:21 p.m.: city ordinance violation, East Main Street, a patrol officer reports he spoke with two business owners about clearing the sidewalks adjacent to their businesses, each owner agreed to address the issue;
6:20 p.m.: unwanted guest, Airport Road, a caller from an airport restaurant reports that an intoxicated woman was abandoned by her husband and is causing a disturbance, the responding officer reports he provided the woman a courtesy transport to her home in hopes her husband would take custody of her, the officer reports the woman was placed in protective custody and transported to the station;
7:04 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Western Avenue, a caller reports untreated sidewalks, the responding officer reports nobody appears to have been at the house since before the most recent snowfall, a snow removal warning notice was left at the offending address;
9:08 p.m.: assault, Mechanic Street, a resident came to the station to report she was assaulted, the responding officer reports that the woman said she had been a pedestrian on Mechanic Street when her former boyfriend and his new girlfriend passed by in a vehicle and the new girlfriend made insulting and offensive remarks to her, the woman said that a friend picked her up and she found the other vehicle, she said when she confronted the other woman she attempted to punch her, the woman said that the woman’s punch did not connect but her return blows did, the officer reports both parties were advised they could seek a criminal complaint at Westfield District Court;
9:36 p.m.: larceny, Samaritan Inn, 7 Free St., a caller reports jewelry was stolen from her belongings at the shelter, the responding officer reports that the woman said that her jewelry was stolen in the past 25 hours.
