Adrienne Rider

GRANVILLE – Adrienne (Liddell) Rider died early morning May 16, 2013, at home in her Granville farmhouse as she had wished.  She was born to Anne (Judson) and Robert P.F. Liddell of Darien CT on January 26, 1933, attended Westtown Friends School in West Chester PA, and Colby Sawyer College in New London NH.
On August 29th, 1953, Adrie married her husband of 60 years, Wilson H. Rider, who survives her. She loved her Granville farmhouse and the activities of the working farm, particularly as they related to her children and their interests with the natural world. She participated in her farm’s preservation by means of an agricultural easement on its property. Adrie spent many happy summers at the family’s cottage on Big Island, Big Pond, Otis Massachusetts, where she cooked and coordinated activities and games for her children and their friends, and yet again for her grandchildren and their friends. She worked at the Drum Factory in Granville, at Otis Ridge Ski Area for her Uncle David and Aunt Hooker Judson, at the Children’s Study Home in Springfield, and was President of Northeast Metals in Westfield until her retirement.
Adrie is survived by her husband, Wilson H. Rider; their son, R.P. Field Rider and his wife Susan E. Percy of New Gloucester, Maine; daughter, Debra Rider Campbell and her husband J. Tyler Campbell of Chestertown, MD; daughter, Sara J. Rider of South Deerfield, MA; granddaughter, Sara Liddell Campbell and grandson Wilson Rivers Campbell.
An Open House celebration of her life will be held for friends and family on August 9, 2013 at Tucker’s, 625 College Highway, Southwick, MA from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Winding River Land Conservancy, Inc. P.O. Box 1836 Westfield, MA 01086-1836.
