Agenda items to include Rugged Maniac

SOUTHWICK – The Board of Selectmen will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
Items up for discussion include the transfer of funds from the Fire Department Capital account to the Operational and Capital Line item for a back-up dispatch system.
Chief Richard Anderson made the request last week and said that $17,000 appropriated for a communications linkage system is no longer needed. Anderson said the department found a simpler and  less expensive way to link the radio communications system between the fire, police and Department of Public Works.
He would like to use the savings to have a backup dispatch system in place in the event of an emergency.
Also on the agenda is a discussion with William Rivera of Louie B’s about a noise complaint, a reserve fund transfer of $10,000 to the sewer overtime account, the appointment of Darlene Utzinger to the Cultural Council, and requests for a beer and wine license, as well as a live entertainment license, for the Rugged Maniac.
The Rugged Maniac is a two-day, 5k obstacle course race. Each Rugged Maniac features at least 20 obstacles constructed by an experienced crew of licensed contractors. Participants will climb over walls up to 12-feet high, crawl through mud under barbed wire, slide down a 50-foot water slide, jump over fire and face many other challenges all while running through a combination of forests, fields, motocross tracks and ski slopes.
This year’s event is set for Sept. 29-30 at Motocross 338. Registration is available until Friday, with discounts for active military, college, and high school students. Spectators are welcome at a cost of $10. Rugged Maniac events are held throughout the country. This is Southwick’s third annual Rugged Maniac.
