Alan A. Daigneau

flagWESTFIELD: Alan A Daigneau, 69, presently of Westfield, devoted and beloved husband for 46 yrs to Ruth (Harrington) Daigneau, passed away Saturday (January 3,2015) surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 20,1945 in Springfield. He attended Agawam High School then immediately enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1966 through 1969. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was assigned to the USS Dewey DLG14 a guided missile destroyer. During this time he was involved with the international incident of the USS Pueblo and the successful release off the coast of North Korea. He was a licensed electrician for nearly 40 years and became the Electrical Inspector for the towns of Granville and Tolland MA. As a 35 year resident of Granville, he selflessly volunteered on the Granville Police Department and retired as Captain with 20 years of service in 2006. He was the Electrical Facility Engineer for International Fuel Cells South Windsor CT, retiring in 2007. As a husband, father and grandfather, Alan’s greatest passion was his family. Besides his wife, Ruthie, he leaves his 4 precious daughters; Julie L Barnes and her husband, Brian of Westfield; Jeanne E Daigneau and her partner Joanne Levine of Auburn MA; Noreen R Reeder and her husband Nathanael of Longmont CO; Joanne M Fox and her husband Matthew of Granville MA; his beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Grace,William, Frederick, Xander, Devan and Zachary; and his brother, Thomas G Daigneau and his husband John Doyle of Springfield MA.Funeral services will be held at 8:15AM on Thursday (Jan. 8, 2015) from the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, (413) 569-5306, 624 College Highway, (Highway 202/10), Southwick.This will be followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial, celebrated at 9:30 AM, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 833 Main St., Agawam. Burial with military honor will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St.,  Agawam. His family will gather from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday (Jan.7, 2015) in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends.
