Alba C. MacLeod

WESTFIELD – Alba C. MacLeod, 93, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. John’s Living Center, Jackson Hole WY. Alba was born February 6, 1920 in Strathcona, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She is the daughter of Roderick (Roddie) MacKay, and Mabel (Maggie) Clay.
After her mother died, Alba, age 4, was sent to live with her mother’s sister, Alba Elliot and her husband Bill in Woburn, MA. Alba spent her summers on her father’s farm where he raised stallions and racehorses, in Dundas, Prince Edward Island. Alba loved horses and even as a young girl was proficient in handling a team of horses on a working farm. She was a beautiful Scottish lassie who caught the eye of John MacLeod one day while she was sitting on a fence in Dundas. They were married for 64 years. John passed away in May of 2006.
Alba attended nursing school and worked during the war in Boston. She loved music and was an excellent piano and organ player. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothing for her children and grandchildren. She spent many hours outside in her gardens, both in Westfield and Prince Edward Island. Alba loved swimming in her backyard pool and at the ocean on Prince Edward Island. Alba and John raised a family in Woburn, MA and also in Westfield, MA. She worked for many years as a dental assistant for Dr. Block before retiring in 1981. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and enjoyed square dancing with John as a member of the Windsor Old Town Square Dance Club. She enjoyed the company of many close friends in Westfield and Prince Edward Island. Despite living her life mostly in Massachusetts, her heart and soul remained connected to Prince Edward Island where she and John enjoyed many summers at their cottage sharing good times and many a lobster dinner with close family and friends.
Alba leaves behind two sons, John MacLeod and his wife Arlene in Hampden, ME and William MacLeod and his wife Robin in Jackson, WY. She also leaves three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Mary MacLeod Bess and her husband KC of Jackson, WY and their daughter Sophie Bess, John MacLeod of San Diego, CA, and Amanda MacLeod of Brooklyn, NY. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind her extended family, the Zepkos. Tony and Janice Zepko, Sophie Zepko, Mary and her two children Bradley and Laura Zepko, who Alba considered her additional grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday, February 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, with burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Westfield. Calling hours are omitted.
