WESTFIELD – Bacteria contamination was discovered in a sample of water drawn from Well #5 located off Northwest Road. The Water Resource Department initiated protocols required by the state Department of Environmental Protection, including additional sample testing.
The DEP protocols also strongly recommends that residents in the southwest section of the city boil water for human consumption and oral hygiene, including water for making ice. Ice making equipment in refrigerators should be disabled by lifting the bar.
The following is also a DEP protocol to warn residents of the potential heath hazard, especially those at high risk which include infants and elderly citizens and anyone with a compromised immune system. To learn more, click here.
