Andrew Popoli

HODGES, SC –  Andrew Popoli, 70, of 106 Free Bridge Court, Hodges, SC, husband of Valeria “Val” Janulewicz Popoli, died Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood, SC. He was a son of the late Dr. Alphonse Popoli and Elena Reppucci Popoli.
Andy was a 1961 graduate of Assumption Preparatory School, Worcester, MA, received a BA degree in Liberal Arts from Holy Cross and a Master’s degree in Social Work from UNC, Chapel Hill. He wrote the first grant in Massachusetts for the Rural Housing Authority and was the owner of Popoli Honda-Yamaha in Westfield, MA. He was a member of the Greenwood (SC) Motorcycle Club and the Greenwood YMCA.
Surviving is his wife of the home; two sons, Matthew Popoli (Paula) of Mamaroneck, NY and Kevin Popoli (Becca) of Roswell, GA; a stepdaughter, Melissa Cook (Mark) of Greenwood, SC; a stepson, Joseph Melloni of Norwich, CT; two brothers, Thomas Popoli of Naples, FL and Stephen Popoli of Westfield, MA; grandchildren, Sadie Popoli, Ashley Gleason, Samuel Popoli, Lily Popoli, William Popoli, Elena Popoli, Andrew Popoli, Avery Cook and Rivers Cook. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Popoli.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Zeb Young officiating. Burial will be in M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson, SC, at a later date. Honorary escort will be members of the Greenwood Motorcycle Club.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The family is at home.
