Anne C. Courtney

WESTFIELD: Anne C. (Simonich) Courtney, 95, (1920-2015) of Westfield, Massachusetts passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Mont Marie Nursing Home in Holyoke, Massachusetts on September 4, 2015. Born on August 8, 1920 she was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas J. Courtney Sr. of Westfield, MA. She was a life-long communicant of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield, MA.

She leaves her beloved children, daughters Dr. Mary Courtney Prince and husband Marc Prince of Springfield and Rockport, MA, Agnes Courtney Jenkins and husband Patrick Jenkins Sr. of Chandler, AZ, Barbara Courtney Wall and husband Tom Wall of Holland, MA and a son, Thomas J. Courtney Jr. and wife Julia Hollett Courtney of Wilbraham, MA. Anne also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Patrick Jenkins Jr. and his wife Megan Blanchard-Jenkins of Baton Rouge LA, Mary Courtney Jenkins of Washington, DC, Christopher Wall and his wife Maryna Wall of Lowell, MA, James Wall of Holland MA, Maureen Wall of Grafton MA, Jessica Anne Courtney of Cambridge, MA and Thomas J. Courtney III, (TJ), of Woodland Hills, CA.

She leaves a sister, Barbara (Simonich) Shea of Worthington, MA and a brother Charles J. Simonich and his wife Mary Fitzgerald Simonich of East Longmeadow, MA. She was predeceased by siblings Mary Simonich, Lt. NicholasSimonich, George Simonich and Frances (Simonich) Hudgik.

Anne was a registered nurse and worked at Noble Hospital in Westfield, MA as well as a private duty nurse. She was a graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing, Springfield, MA as well as Holy Name High School in Chicopee, MA. Anne was very active in the Blessed Sacrament Church, Westfield MA and was a member of the Altar Circle and the Schunstock Prayer Group for many years. Anne delighted in small pleasures having grown up on Simonich Farm in Chicopee, MA. She was the daughter of Nicholas M. Simonich and Mary T. Matjasic-Simonich who emigrated from Austria. She frequently reminisced about the farm and the great fun and adventures she shared with her many cousins. She was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed her iris garden, which she maintained for many years. She will be missed by her family and friends. The family is grateful to the caring staff at Mont Marie Nursing Home in Holyoke, MA and Baystate Health Hospice.

The funeral services will be held at the Robert E Cusack Funeral Home, 94 Main St., Westfield, MA, at 9:00 AM Tuesday September 15, followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield MAat 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St Mary’s cemetery, also in Westfield. Calling hours will be held on Sunday September 13, from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. Memorial gifts may be made in her name to the Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield, MA.
