CHESTER – Antonio “Tony” J. Piergiovanni Jr., 81, (1938-2019) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Tony was born on July 6, 1938 in Chester, son to the late Antonio Sr. and Maria (Masstrippolito) Piergiovanni. Tony grew up in Chester and graduated from Chester High School in 1956. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in engineering. He worked as an aerospace engineer for the federal government and private companies such as Hamilton Standard and General Electric. He received numerous certifications and recognitions from the Defense Logistics Agency, Air Force Institute of Technology, the United States Logistics Management Center and the Department of the Air Force. Upon his retirement, he returned to Chester to take care of numerous family members always putting family before himself. He was an avid Boston and UMass sports fan and loved the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a communicant to Holy Family Parish. Tony is survived by his sisters Mary McNamara and Linda Piergiovanni of Chester, his sister in law, Fay Piergiovanni, five nieces, Mary Brauer (Bill) of San Diego, California, Catherine Napierski (John) of New Britain Connecticut, Linda Breault (John) of New Britain, Connecticut, Tina Howe (Bill) of Blandford, Massachusetts and Lisa Ciejka (Gerry) of Westfield, Massachusetts and four great nieces, Krista, Alyssa, Erika and Alexandria and six great nephews, Bryan, Robert, John, Christopher, Nicholas and Dominick. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings Rosina, Louisa, Margaret, Dalfina, Anna, Lucia, Dominic and his great nephew Thomas.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Monday, December 16th at 10:00AM at Holy Family Parish 5 Main Street in Russell. A private burial will take place in the spring at St. Thomas Cemetery in Huntington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tony’s memory to The Chester Firemen’s Association 260 Rte.20 Chester MA 01011 or The Hilltown Community Ambulance Association, 1 Bromley Road Huntington MA 01050.
