WESTFIELD – City police are investigating the disappearance of a rosary from St. Mary’s Church and are asking the public for assistance.
Det. Brian Freeman reports that the rosary beads were reported to be missing on Monday by Rev. Brian McGrath who said that the rosary had been draped around a statue of Our Lady of Fatima in the entrance to the church.
McGrath provided a photograph of the statue adorned with the rosary which is made of blue beads.
He said that the missing rosary is a “house rosary” and, as such, is bigger than rosaries which are often made to be small enough to carry easily.
He said that the chain of beads is doubled to make a rosary about two and a half feet long.
The rosary, when seen in the photo provided by the pastor, may look to be longer than it actually is since the stature it is draped on is smaller than life sized. McGrath said the stature is about four feet tall.
Anyone with information about the missing rosary is asked to call Freeman at 642-9388.
