Bombers spike first win

The Westfield High School boys’ volleyball team rebounded from a season-opening loss to sweep host Central, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14 on Wednesday.
After gaining their footing in the first set, the Bombers (1-1) grabbed hold of a good-sized lead in the final two sets to win by double-digits both times.
Jonatan Anttonen, Jason Burnusuz, and Alex Merenkov paved the way for the Westfield victory to finish the opening week .500.
Merenkov delivered eight kills and seven aces, Burnusuz finished with four kills and 27 assists, and Anttonen had seven kills.
“We did play well in our opener, but this was one we had to have,” Westfield coach Tyler Wingate said. “We had a great day of practice (Tuesday) leading into this match.
Wingate said he could not really pinpoint one major difference in his team’s play from the opener to yesterday, but when pressed said, “Our communication was better, and we were a little bit more efficient with our attacking.”
