Art & Music converge on downtown Westfield

WESTFIELD – Art and music converge in downtown Westfield on Friday July 20th  to create a spectacular cultural experience in the heart of the city. ArtWorks of Westfeld, Inc., a Westfield-based, non-profit organization promoting and supporting the arts and culture in Westfield, is hosting both events.

ArtWalk Westfield, launched in June at four merchant hosted, pop up galleries along Elm Street in downtown Westfield on the eastern edge of the Gaslight District, takes place on Friday July 20th from 5-7pm. Local acrylic painters Shannon Chiba and Steven Jones, oil painter Debbie Hess and chair artist Erin Myers Ibrahim will display their work in the four pop-up galleries located at Rosewood Home & Gifts, Two River Burrito, Mama Cakes and Blended Vintage Marketplace.

Artists will showcase their work inside each location and conduct live demonstrations outside each shop along the sidewalk, weather permitting. In addition to the gallery experiences, visitors can view truly unique sculptures created by Westfield metal artist Sebastian Sube Glebocki along the walk

On the same evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, The Lisa Martin Band will be performing in the performance space between Mina’s Wine & Spirits and George’s Jeweler as part of the Downtown Live! Friday Night Concert Series. Lisa Martin, a self-described folk-rock-country-blues performing singer-songwriter, was the winner of the 2015 Worcester Music Award for Best Country/Americana Artist. Her songs are melodic and catchy.

“The confluence of the two event on the same evening was purely by chance,” said Bill Westfield, president of ArtWorks Westfield. “Our music planning group led by local musician Tom Sawyer organized the concert series. Our art team led by local artist Donna Carmel blossomed the art walk concept and the two happened to overlap. Which is a good thing for the residents of Westfield … art and music in the heart of the city!”

“Both events are free and public is highly encouraged to rediscover downtown Westfield,” noted Westerlind. “Make it a night out … dinner, refreshments, shopping, art and music all within walking distance on Elm Street.”

ArtWalk Westfield is held on the third Friday of each month from 5-7pm, featuring a new mix of artist and artistic mediums each month.

Downtown Live! Friday Night Concert Series takes place each Friday evening in downtown Westfield through August 31st. Mac and Vinnie play on July 27th. Doors cover band Reptilian Czar take the stage on August 3rd.

“We fully understand June 22 is technically not the third Friday of June,” said Westerlind. “But we were extraordinarily eager to get started and simply couldn’t hold off until July!”
