SOUTHWICK – Although it’s not spring, it certainly feels that way, and in Southwick, spring means the Southwick Cultural Council (SCC) annual art show.
The SCC is now accepting applications from all regional artists for consideration at its 17th annual juried Art Exhibition. This year, the Art Exhibition will be held at the Southwick Town Hall on April 30 and May 1.
Chairperson Susan Kochanski said the show has become a tradition and a place for artists and craftspeople to share and sell their work. For the Cultural Council, the exhibit helps keep the arts alive.
“It’s a great way for people to see local art, including student work,” said Kochanski.
The exhibit is open to fine arts, fine art crafts (sculpture, pottery), and photography on all subject matter and media. Originals, limited editions and open editions are allowed.
Many art enthusiasts attend the exhibition to find new artists as well as see what their favorite artists have created.
Cultural Council member Ellen Miles said many people attend the exhibit specifically to purchase pieces from certain artists.
“We definitely have collectors who come to see particular artists,” said Miles
Interested artisans may pick up an application and guideline at the Southwick Town Hall or, download from the town website, www.southwickma.org/cultural. Applications are also available at the Southwick Public Library. All applications must be received no later than March 18.
Any questions regarding the application or guideline may be directed to Kochanski at 413 569 0946 or email [email protected].
The Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, supports the Southwick Cultural Council (SCC), a local agency. The SCC meets the third Thursday of each month at the Southwick Town Hall at 7 p.m.
