Assault sends one person to hospital

WESTFIELD–A person was sent to the hospital after they were assaulted on Chapel Street late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to police.

According to Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe, a person was reportedly assaulted with their pockets gone through by two males. The report come in shortly before 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning. The assault, according to police, is similar to one that occurred over the weekend.

According to McCabe, the latest victim was allegedly assaulted by two males and sustained a jaw injury, and police reported that the victim also allegedly had his pockets “rummaged” through. The victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center via Westfield Fire ambulance and personnel.

McCabe said that another assault that reportedly occurred Saturday night, Dec. 16, was similar. Police are looking into whether the two are related.

In that incident, the victim was allegedly assaulted in the vicinity of East Bartlett Street and Phelps Avenue. The alleged assault was initially being done by one male who threw the victim onto the ground and began to punch them. Then, two other males allegedly came and were punching and kicking the victim. The victim also allegedly had $29 taken from them during the incident.

The victim of the Saturday assault was also transported to an area hospital for treatment.
