Babe Ruth state tourneys set for first pitch

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball All-Stars are about to state their cases why they deserve to become the next Massachusetts champion.

The Westfield 13-, 14-, and 15-Year-Old All Stars will play their respective opening round state tournament games this weekend from the Whip City to Worcester.

Westfield’s 14s will be the first one off the mat when it hosts Worcester-East Side Friday at Bullens Field at 7 p.m.

The winner advances to play Leominster, Saturday, at 4. The loser will play the loser of Friday’s first game between Franklin County and Pittsfield. First pitch for that game is slated for 4.

All 14-year-old state tournament games will be played at Bullens Field throughout the weekend, culminating in the championship game early next week.

The Westfield 15s will open against Pittsfield at East Side Vernon Field in Worcester Saturday at 1 p.m. The Whip City’s 13-year-old team faces off against Pittsfield at Logan Field in Worcester at 3 p.m.

Westfield’s 13s are guaranteed a spot in the New England Regionals as the host team for the tournament, beginning Friday, July 27. All games are scheduled for Bullens.

On Thursday, July 26, the Westfield Wheelmen and Whately Pioneers, featuring former New York Yankees pitcher Jim Boutin, will square off in a Vintage Base ball game at Bullens Field, beginning at 7 p.m.

The special Vintage Base ball game will kick off a festive weekend of Babe Ruth Baseball.
