Barbara L. Jameson

CHESTER – Barbara L. (Longey) Jameson, 90, of Skyline Trail, Chester, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 20, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Barbara was born on September 12, 1929 in Agawam, the beloved daughter of the late Walter E. Longey and Louise A. (Pepperell) Longey.

Barbara especially enjoyed spending time with her extended family, the door was always open and a smile on her face whenever they visited! Barbara started her career working for Eastern States Farmers Exchange in West Springfield, MA before becoming a full time homemaker and mother in Middlefield, MA. She and her husband moved to their lifetime home on Chester Hill shortly after to make a loving home for their 4 children. She helped in the establishment of High Meadow Farm, which became the focal point of her life, where she happily greeted neighbors and customers from far and near on her front porch and in her home. Once her children were school age, she became a teacher’s aide at Chester Elementary School and a trustee for Hamilton Memorial Library. She later served on the Chester Board of Appeals. Barbara worked as an office manager for Patricia Reach Corporation in Westfield for several years and then went on to work in the Financial Aid office of Westfield State College until she retired. Barbara served as chairperson of the Chester Hill Association’s Scholarship Committee for several years. Barbara and her husband Jim were awarded the Chester Hill Association’s Citizen of the Year for their tremendous contribution to the quality of life on Chester Hill.

Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Harold C. Jameson Jr.  She leaves her four loving children, Karen L. (Jameson) Savoy of Chester, Craig D. Jameson and his wife Brenda of Chester, Susan L. (Jameson) DeFeo and her husband Jeffrey of Chester, and Glenn C. Jameson and his wife Galina, also of Chester. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Deryck A. Savoy and his wife Cindy, Lucas J. Savoy and his wife Kathleen, Andrea L. (Savoy) Lathrop and her husband Jeremy, Jason W. Jameson and his partner Daphne Mower, Kimberly M. Jameson and her partner William Hoffman, Sarah L. DeFeo, Elisha T. Jameson, Benjamin P. Jameson, and Anna M. Jameson. She also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her sister Beverly L. (Longey) Fowler. She leaves behind her sister, Beth L. (Longey) Leiderman, and her brother, Brian (Butch) W. Longey and his wife Gail.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Chester Hill Association, 343 Skyline Trail, Chester, MA 01011 or Hamilton Memorial Library Friends, Box 7, 15 Middlefield Rd, Chester, MA 01011.
