SOUTHWICK – Betty S. (Shurtleff) Leavitt, 87, a resident of this town since 1965, passed away at home on April 17, 2013. She was born in Carver, MA to the late Perez and Alice (Russell) Shurtleff.
Betty received her Bachelors and Master’s Degree in education from Boston University, and worked as a school teacher for the Westfield and Southwick School Systems, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Southwick Congregational Church, a former member of Ladies Benevolent Society, the Women’s Club in Southwick, Historical Society in Southwick, Hampden County Teachers Association, National Education Association and volunteered at the Noble Hospital Gift Shop.
Betty is survived by her loving children, Russell G. Leavitt and his wife Lori of Feeding Hills, MA, Betsy S. Lamotte and her husband Eugene of Belchertown, MA, and Meredith B. Kost and her husband Samuel of Kirkwood, NY, a sister Priscilla Monroe of Valley Head, AL, and 3 cherished grandchildren, Jeremy & Brittany Lamotte, and Tyler Kost. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert R. Leavitt in 1993 and a sister Margaret Houle in 2012.
Funeral services for Betty will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, MA. Burial will follow in the New Cemetery, Southwick. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from 9:30 -11:00 AM prior to the services.
