Residents of the Birch Bluffs section of Westfield were startled by a loud
blast Saturday morning (June 9th) that could have been mistaken for a
gunshot. At around 9:45 a.m. residents were roused from their homes when a fuse was blown on one or more utility poles. The utility worker on the scene said a
squirrel on the line had caused the the blown fuse. A handful of residents
were temporally without power as a result of this incident but power was
restored in a little more than a half hour.
