CHICOPEE – Double bogeys are the farthest thing from the minds of Westfield High’s golfers. In fact, the Bombers’ wins seem doubly fascinating.
Westfield defeated Chicopee and Chicopee Comp in a tri-meet on the road yesterday to improve to 5-2. The Bombers edged Chicopee 255-261, and knocked off Chicopee Comp 265-279 at Chicopee Country Club.
Westfield senior captain Tanner Dasso shot a 3-over-par 39 to lead the team to victory. John Kiefer and Ian Wolski each finished with a 42.
“Right now we have consistency,” Westfield coach Chris Strycharz said. “It’s the best thing we’ve got. We need kids to shoot in the low 40s and if it’s not one, it’s another. Someone always has a good day.”

St. Mary’s 16.5, Southwick 7.5
St. Mary’s Noah Parker (39) edged Jake Hough (39), of Southwick in the top spot and Saints enjoyed a stellar day at Edgewood’s par-36 course.
Freshman Pat Mahoney scooped up six points for the Rams in the sixth spot with a 45.

FIELD HOCKEY
The Westfield High School field hockey team is in a Southern Division dogfight.
Westfield tied Minnechaug 3-3 yesterday to enter into a 3-way tie with the Falcons and Agawam Brownies, all 1-1-2 in South League play.
“Right now, the South League is pretty much a mix,” Westfield coach Karen Gomez said. Jordan Swift had a hand in all three Westfield goals, assisting on the first and last goals and scoring the second, unassisted. Lexi Minicucci netted the second Bombers’ score.
“Westfield is looking great,” Gomez said. “We’re really coming together as a team.”
“It’s exciting as a coach,” she added, “because each game keeps getting better and better, the athletes keep growing and the team keeps growing. So I’m very excited.”
Karly Mastello finished with 18 saves for Westfield.
