Bombers grounded; charity event on tap

WESTFIELD – Olivia Slysz (2 assists) and Kami Sierra scored five goals apiece to spur on South Hadley’s 19-10 win over Westfield in a key high school girls’ lacrosse game Wednesday.
Rachel Gelina led Westfield with five goals. Olivia Chaoush finished with three goals and one assist.
Bombers’ goalie Lexi Levere made 15 saves.
Westfield next host St. Mary in a game dedicated to Laurie A. Dwight-Beliveau, a former president of Westfield Girls’ Lacrosse and KEVS Foundation committee member, who died last February at the age of 52 due to a very rare and aggressive form of breast cancer.
The game will be played at Westfield High School Friday at 5:30 p.m.

GIRLS’ TENNIS
Bombers stomp Panthers
Westfield 4, Palmer 1

Hannah Taylor (6-4, 7-5) and Olga Korobkov (6-1, 6-4) won at first and second singles, respectively, for Westfield; and, the Bombers swept doubles play for a convincing victory Wednesday.
Westfield’s top doubles pair, Natalie Mitchell and Gabby Rivera won a three-set thriller over Palmer’s Amanda Costa and Elisah Huynh, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Gianna Lagone and Anushka Sharma were also victorious for the Bombers, winning in a second doubles match, 6-0, 6-1.
Westfield’s Haley Pelean fought valiantly at third singles to Palmer’s Haley Pelean, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.

SOFTBALL
Sylvia homers in Rams’ loss
Turners Falls 10, Southwick 3

Southwick avoided being shut out by Turners Falls with three runs in the seventh inning. Jenn Yelin singled, Tori DellaGiustina tripled, and Kate Sylvia knocked in both runners with a 3-run home run.
Emily Lachtara recorded seven strikeouts for the Rams.

Sabis tops Gators
Sabis 14, Gateway 5

Gateway scored five runs in a road game Wednesday.

JV BASEBALL
Southwick 4, Monument Mountain 3

Josh Sylvia pitched another gem for Southwick (8-10), scattering three hits, one walk, and two earned runs over six innings. Sylvia struck out six batters.
Sam Mizanoglu shut the door, pitching an inning of relief with two Ks and one earned run.
Tyler Orban’s run-scoring double and Sam Parker’s RBI triple helped spark the Southwick’s offense. Sylvia also smashed a double, and Rams’ Brandon Seymour and Johnny Cesan singled.

JV SOFTBALL
Turners Falls 9, Southwick 0

Molly Petit broke up a no-hit bit by Turners Falls with Southwick’s lone base hit.
