WESTFIELD – Nothing lasts forever.
The Westfield High School wrestling team’s run of perfection came to an end Tuesday evening with a 49-12 loss to arguably one of the best teams in the entire state, the Minnechaug Falcons.
In one of the best matches of the night, Westfield junior captain Caitlin Carter took Calvin Styles deep into the third period before falling by pin with 18 seconds remaining.
“Carter was truly inspiring tonight,” Westfield High School wrestling coach Chris Malinowski said. “She is such a tough wrestler.”
Westfield freshman Chase Bousseau and sophomore Nico Paulson took home wins respectively, at 182 and 195 pounds. Bombers junior Peyton Bates moved up two weight classes but lost the closest match of the night to Dom Mazzavca, 9-4.
Westfield sophomore Tristan Connors wrestled tough but eventually fell to the much more experienced Jake Motyl by technical fall in the third period of a 126 weight class matchup.
At 132, Westfield sophomore Anthony Ross fell to Austin Montero by pin one minute into the first period. At 145, Minnechaug’s Cam Ice pinned Westfield freshman Spencer Bates in the second period. At 152, Westfield freshman Ruslan Tabolich fell to Lium Meeker at 1:11 of the second period. Minnechaug’s Nic Ensor pinned Westfield sophomore Nikita Tabolich.
Westfield (2-1) will attempt to go undefeated in league competition this season when the Bombers take on East Longmeadow, Tues., June 8.

St. Mary’s Katarzyna Wisnauckas scored her 98th and 99th career points – – both on goals – – in a road defeat, nearly netting that historic milestone several times.
Paighton Ramos tallied two goals and one assist for St. Mary’s. Saints’ Skylar Duda also had a goal.
Meredith Ravizza led all scorers with four goals and two assists. Christina Roncarati had four goals and one assist.
Falcons clip Bombers

Emma Metcalf recorded a hat trick, and Lara Finnie and Claire Griffith each had one goal and one assist offensively for Westfield. Goalie Danielle Coe and the Bombers defense were solid in a losing effort.

Bryce Roberts had a hand in 13 of St. Mary’s 14 goals, scoring eight times and assisting on five others. Saints’ Fred Murray had three goals and one assist. Evan Carmody and Evan Ploof each had one goal and one assist. Kegan Foley scored once.
St. Mary’s goalie Colin Ramos collected 12 saves.

Tigers defeat Pioneers
Westfield Technical Academy 6, Pathfinder 2
Westfield Technical Academy scored a run in each inning, save for the second, to defeat Pathfinder.
Josh Sturmer (1-for-3, triple, run, 2 RBIs), Deven Werbiskis (1-for-2, 2 runs), and Trent Adam (1-for-2, RBI) had the lone hits for Westfield Tech. Dacota Durkee and Riley Sullivan each had a RBI. It was the first game back from injury for Adam.
Durkee also had a solid game on the mound for the Tigers. He tossed a complete game two-hitter, striking out 13 batters and walking one.
Westfield Tech senior reserve Tim Nacewicz made a nice play at second base to end the game, stabbing a hard hit ball in the hole, turning and throwing to first base to record the final out.
Westfield Tech improved to 7-3.

Ariana Ciaschini and Katherine O’Connor lost a hard-fought match for Westfield, losing to Longmeadow’s Laura Burtin and Nina Hutchins at second doubles, 6-4, 6-2.
