WESTFIELD–Special themed rooms await patrons to the Westfield Athenaeum’s annual spring book sale, now at Old Town Hall at the First Congregational Church.
“All proceeds from our spring book sale support the many free programs and services offered by the Westfield Athenaeum,” said Bill Westerlind, president of The Friends of the Westfield Athenaeum, sponsors of the popular fundraiser.
Book sale days are planned for April 27 and 28 from noon to 8 p.m., and April 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On April 26, a special Friends Preview Night is slated from 4 to 8 p.m.
“This is a special preview for all current members of the Friends of the Westfield Athenaeum who will be able to shop the sale before it opens to the public on Thursday,” said Westerlind. He added that memberships will be available at the door for anyone interested in joining the Friends on preview night.
“Teachers from any local educational institution are also invited to attend the preview night when presenting a current and valid educational institutional ID,” said Westerlind. “Recognizing that so many teachers use their personal funds to purchase books and supplies for their classrooms, every teacher attending preview night will receive a $5 shopping certificate good towards any spring book sale purchase.”
In addition to thousands of books, the sale will feature collectible prints and posters, vinyl record albums, children’s books and DVDs.
“The layout of the Old Town Hall will allow for special themed rooms, including a media room, an entire room devoted exclusively to paperback books and a children’s book room, in addition to the main rooms featuring fiction and nonfiction hardcover and trade paperbacks,” said Westerlind.
Book prices will range from four for $1 to $1 each, with varying prices for collectibles, special series, coffee table books, posters and media. All major credit cards, in addition to cash and checks, will be accepted.
Westerlind noted that the Friends group will be accepting book donations through April 26. Book donations can be made anytime during regular library hours in the donation collection box adjacent to the circulation desk at the Athenaeum.
“Members of the Friends group will also be offering curbside drop off services in front of the library on April 15 and April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for book donations,” said Westerlind. “So you don’t even have to get out of your car.”
For persons who would like to have their donations picked up at their home, visit www.westath.org or call (413) 568-7833 or send an email to [email protected] for more details.
