Brief snow storm see’s spike in car accidents

WESTFIELD- More than 20 motor vehicle accidents occurred across Westfield Thursday during a brief snow storm that hit the region.

In a period lasting from 1 p.m. until approximately 5 p.m., 23 motor vehicle accidents were reported in the City of Westfield. During that time, six accidents occurred on East Mountain Road and two accidents happened on North Road within a period of five minutes.

There was just one reported injury in which the vehicle’s occupant was transported to Baystate Noble Hospital due to the vehicle colliding with a viaduct on Union Street. The occupant originally declined medical attention before deciding to accept transport.

Most of the accidents yielded only minor property damage to the vehicles themselves or the area they struck. However, several vehicles that were involved had to be towed from the scene.
