GRANVILLE – The Community Christian School is hosting their annual Christmas play, “Great Big Story,” on Thursday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Travis Fuller Gymnasium.
This year, the middle-school drama club is hosting the play and doing the acting while the students in kindergarten to fifth grade will be singing in the choir to supplement the play.
“It just keeps all of the student body involved and it’s really fun,” said Sarah Mestre “It’s just a good wholesome program.”
A free event, the ‘Great Big Story’ is known as a fun-filled children’s Christmas musical with colorful characters and includes a message about God’s love.
The event on December 13 marks the first time the Community Christian School is having their annual Christmas play in their new location in Granville.
“We’re so excited, it’s going to be extra special,” said Mestre.
The Community Christian School appreciates the support they’ve received from Granville residents since they officially agreed to lease the building on July 23 for a five-year lease. The lease was a result of the Granville Village School closing at the end of the 2017-18 school year. The Southwick-Tolland-Granville District school committee voted in favor of closing the Granville Village School in February.
Prior to the new location on 409 Main Rd. in Granville, Community Christian School spent 12 years in Westfield. They started by using the New Life Christian Center on Dartmouth Street, followed by moving to a building that was a former paper mill on 39 South Broad St. in Westfield.
Mestre hopes the support will continue for the ‘Great Big Story’.
“People have been really receptive,” said Mestre. “We really hope that the community will come out and come into the school and just enjoy a nice evening out in the Christmas spirit.”
Mestre added that refreshments will be served in the cafeteria next to the gymnasium after the show has concluded.
A non-denominational school that isn’t affiliated with any church, the Community Christian School is a three-day model but a five-day school. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, students attend the school and are in classrooms. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the students complete their assignments and schoolwork at home with a parent to supervise them.
