Church plans family Irish night Saturday

WESTFIELD – Sarah Michel, known regionally as Sarah the Fiddler, will be the featured performer during the third annual Family Irish Night on March 12 at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church on Holyoke Road in Westfield.
Michel specializes in bluegrass, old-time and swing music, but it is her upbeat fiddle music that will get everyone’s feet stomping following the 4 p.m. Mass in the parish center.
“Sarah is an amazing musician that we have had prior and she rocks the event,” said Lisa Laferriere, youth minister, who is overseeing logistics for the event.
The event is open to the public and tickets are $8 at the door. Tickets may also be purchased after all Masses on March 5 and 6 at $5 per person. Children under the age of five will be admitted free.
Laferriere noted that proceeds raised from the evening’s festivities will benefit future youth group pilgrimages.
“Leading up to the event and the night of, our youth group members are the ones who make and sell the tickets, who work in the kitchen, and staff the whole event,” said Laferriere.
In addition to Michel’s performance, those attending will have an opportunity to take Irish step lessons from parishioner Anne Fratini.
“Our young parishioner is skilled with several years of Irish dance experience,” said Laferriere.
Menu items will include corned beef sandwiches, chips, and macaroni and cheese.
Laferriere also noted an activity room for kids is planned, and for adults, a chance to win a large assortment of raffle baskets.
“Every year parishioners make incredible gift baskets,” said Laferriere. “Some baskets have specific themes including Star Wars, gardening, Boston Celtics, baseball, wine, ice cream sundaes, cooking and pizza. And, of course, an Irish theme, plus there are a lot more.”
Laferriere added a 50/50 raffle is also planned.
For more information and to purchase tickets, contact the parish office at (413) 562-3450.
“Our Family Irish Night is a wonderful event that is family friendly and fun filled for all ages,” said Laferriere. “We will have good food available for dinner and a night packed with fun for everyone. The event also helps our youth travel to places they might not otherwise be able to.”
