City seeks new airport manager

WESTFIELD- Barnes Regional Airport will soon need a new airport manager as Eric Billowitz, who currently holds the post, will be leaving his post on Tuesday. 

A job posting was made on the City of Westfield website Jan. 17 for a new manager. Billowitz said on Friday that he is moving on from the position, which he has held for three years, to pursue a new opportunity. He did not say where he would be going next. 

The job posting on the city website is required to be open for 30 days, during which time applications will be accepted. The city personnel department will then narrow down the applicants to a short list of top candidates from which the new airport manager will be chosen. 

Billowitz said that he expects Assistant Airport Manager Jeffrey Lovejoy to be the interim airport manager while a permanent candidate is sought. 

“It has just been an amazing experience. I think, in working together with the Airport Commission and the city, we have been able to do some really good things and I hope those efforts continue to help the airport prosper,” said Billowitz. 

According to the listing, the qualifications for the position are: A Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management, Engineering, Business Administration and/or a related field. A minimum of five (5) years related aviation managerial experience at a public use airport and five (5) years supervisory experience. Knowledgeable in municipal government is desired but not mandatory.
