Clifford L. Thayer

Russell – Clifford Leigh Thayer, 87, a lifelong resident of Russell passed away peacefully at home on December 23rd.  He is survived by his loving wife Jacqueline (LaPlante) of 62 years.  He is predeceased by his parents Howard and Gertrude (Sikes) and siblings Ruth Meissner and Harland Thayer.  He leaves his family Linda-Jo and (Joe) Diamond, Lenise Pappas, Luann Grimaldi and (Bryan) and Todd Thayer.  His grand-children:  Jennifer, Jason, Bethany, Kristen, Katie, Eric and Haley and great grandchildren: Makayla, Jake, Logan, Emelia, Evan, Lyla, Analee and Hazel. He leaves his siblings: ConnieHerman, Janet Maslar, Roger, Glenn and Richard Thayer. Leigh served in the Air Force for four years.  He worked as a millwright and master mechanic for Westfield River Paper Company and had been retired for 26 years.  He was a volunteer fireman for Russell, an avid bowler, a master of the art of unicycling and enjoyed fishing and horseshoes.  Upon retirement he was a small engine repairman, took up golfing, enjoyed gardening and was a scratch ticket fan. He loved spending time with his family. The family would like to thank Dr. Glynn and the Oncology Department at Noble Hospital and Baystate Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Russell Community Church.A memorial service will take place on Saturday the 31st at 11:00 at the Russell Community Church.
