Commission approves restaurant alterations

WESTFIELD – The License Commission voted Monday night to allow the alteration of two restaurants licensed to serve alcohol on premises, as well as allowing other changes at those facilities.
The three-member commission approved a request by Harold Tramazzo, owner of The Hangar Pub and Grill at 29 School Street, to subdivide the three floors of the building which formerly housed the School Street Bistro.
Tramazzo requested permission from the commission to make alterations to the layout of the third floor, which is serviced by an elevator. The current open layout will be modified by creating three separate rooms: a function room capable of accommodating between 60 and 80 patrons, an expanded kitchen with food and alcohol storage coolers, and a bar area.
The License Commission also approved a change of the alcohol service manager, which was initially held in Tramazzo’s name to that of an eight-year employee, Caleb Ritter.
The License Commission also approved the alteration of Santorini’s Restaurant located at 930 Southampton Road and approved an application requested by the owner, Ali Abanoz, for a full-alcoholic beverage license.
The restaurant has held a malt and wine license for several years and requested the full bar license to support its expanded dinner menu. The current hours are operation is from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. during which breakfast, lunch and dinner are available.
The alteration project, which has cost $110,000, includes construction of a much larger kitchen and food preparation area, as well as new kitchen equipment. Patron seating capacity would increase from 95 to 98. The restaurant will continue to have a small service bar.
Both restaurant license alterations are pending a certificate of inspection, required under state law and performed by inspectors of the city’s Building and Fire departments
In other business the commission approved a transfer of the manager for Rally’s Bar & Grill on Meadow Street. That business and building are being purchased by Jacquelyn L. and Louis S. Scarfo Sr. Jacquelyn will serve as the alcoholic beverage manger under the new corporate structure.
