WESTFIELD – The city’s police have added firepower thanks to an effort by a local gun dealer and an area gun manufacturer.
Officer Mark Carboneau, a firearms training officer a the department, reports that the city officers have turned in their Smith and Wesson .40 caliber semi-automatic sidearms and were issued a newer weapon after training with a S&W .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Carboneau and his training colleague, Sgt. Jeffrey Baillargeon, have administered training and qualification testing for the city’s officers at the Westfield Sportsman’s Club with the newer pistol.
The weapons were provided by Smith and Wesson through their local dealer, Camfour Inc., at no cost to the city.
Camfour, a supplier of guns and accessories located on Westfield Industrial Park Road, donated the holsters needed for the new guns.
The .40 caliber pistols which were exchanged for the newer guns had also been supplied to the department by Smith and Wesson without charge.
