Darlene I. Arthur

SOUTHWICK – Darlene Irene Arthur, 64, of Southwick, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at her home. Born in Quincy, MA on May 24, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Grant R. Baxter and Irene I. (Stewart) Baxter of Quincy, MA. She graduated from UMASS in 1974 with a Degree in Physical Education.  Darlene worked for the Springfield School System for many years before retiring from Rebecca Johnson School in 2011. She loved learning and studying, especially history and sociology.  She volunteered at the Southwick Historical Society, was a Girl Scout Troop Leader while her girls were in Girl Scouts as well as her granddaughter, and loved every minute of it.  Darlene also enjoyed sports and was a soccer coach. Her love of her family, her daughters and grandchildren, was unmatched and indescribable.  She lived for her family and had the biggest heart that you’d ever meet.  Darlene loved to travel, loved the calm of the ocean, and collected cooking recipes, even though she didn’t always get around to making them. As a child, she attended Quincy Point Congregational Church. A bright, beautiful, generous woman, she was  loved and will be missed by so many family and friends. She leaves 2 daughters, Wendey Arthur and her fiancé Ryan St. Onge of North Conway, NH, and Sarah Glynn and her husband Daniel of Southwick; 4 adored grandchildren, Averion, Daniel, and Caylum Glynn; and B.M. St. Onge, due in September!; 2 brothers, Grant S. Baxter and his wife Karen of Pembroke, and Robert G. Baxter and his wife Laurie of Rutland ,VT; her sister-in-law, Andrea Baxter of Whitman; her special dog, Henry; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Stephen D. Baxter. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21st from 4-7 PM at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick. Her Funeral will be on Friday, July 22ndat 10 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Cemetery, Southwick. www.forastiere.com.
