David L. Magoon

WESTFIELD – David L. Magoon, 84, died peacefully at home May 8, 2017 with his devoted family by his side.  Born in Brattleboro, VT on April 22, 1933, he was the son of Leroy and Helen (Wells) Magoon and has resided in Westfield, MA for the past 47 years.  He attended the Dummerston, VT public school system and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School and attended Florida Southern College.  David proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War.  In 1968, David and his late wife Alice, started their own business, University Products located in Holyoke and he served as Chairman until his death.  For many years he and Alice enjoyed theater performances at Stage West and Broadway.  He also enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, trips to Cape Cod, extensive traveling and time at their home in St. Petersburg, FL.  He was preceded in death by his wife Alice (Evans) in 2010, his daughter, Deborah Magoon in 2013 and son in law, Donald Upchurch.  He will be forever missed by his children, Scott and his wife Lauren of Northampton and John and his wife Kathleen of South Hadley along with his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Cooper, Seth, Chelsea, Dylan and Chazz.  His siblings, Patience, Nancy, and Margaret along with sister-in-laws, Rita Wasserlein of Westfield and Barbara Johnson and her husband Tom and brother-in-laws, Roger Evans and his wife Faith, Gordon Evans and his wife Linda and Stanley Evans, all of Dummerston, VT, also survive him.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St.  A Funeral Service will be on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m at Dummerston Congregational Church.  Please meet directly at the church.  Burial will follow in Dummerston Center Cemetery.  Donations in his memory may be made to Baystate VNA and Hospice, 50 Maple St., Springfield, MA 01104.  Please visit www.beersandstory.com for more information.
