David O. Sanford

Westfield – David Orso Sanford (82) of Westfield, passed away on January 1, at Meadowbrook in Granby, CT, after a long illness with Lewy Body Dementia. David was born to Richard Herbert Sanford and Caroline Ward Sanford on September 8, 1934 in Westfield, MA. Educated in Westfield schools, David was a graduate of Westfield Trade High School.He worked for Zielinski Brothers Construction and ConRail. He was a long time member of Operating Engineers Local # 98. He was a 30 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Westfield. He was a recipient of their coveted Red Jacket, for his many years of volunteering with all their activities. David enjoyed restoring antique Farmall tractors. He was active in the Western Massachusetts Tractor Pullers Association. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop with Polka music playing and friends stopping by to visit. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish as well as St Peter & St Casimir Parish, both of Westfield. David is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcia Sypytkowski Sanford. He leaves his daughter Brenda Sanford Kerley and her husband Steve of Pennsylvania, his son Richard Sanford of Westfield, his grandsons David Kerley and his wife Samantha of Maryland, Justin Kerley and his wife Taraneh of Pennsylvania and his great grandson BerenKerley. David is also survived by his sister, Margaret Sanford Arenstam and her husband Michael of Maine; their children Clare Graham and her husband Trevor, David Arenstam and his wife Teri, Peter Arenstam, John Arenstam and his wife Rose. He also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews. David’s family would like to acknowledge the excellent care he received during his lengthy illness from The Meadowbrook staff, especially his CNA Beverly and the caring support provided by the Farmington Valley Hospice of Simsbury, CT. The funeral for David will be held on Monday January 9th at 9 am at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, his family has requested memorial donations be made in his memory, to either the Kiwanis of Westfield Foundation, PO Box 522, Westfield, MA 01086 or the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield, PO Box 128, Westfield, MA 01086.
