Westfield – Walter C. Goodspeed, 78 of Westfield died peacefully with his family by his side on Friday December 30, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center following a tough and long battle with Lewey Body Dementia. He was born in Boston on April 8, 1938 to the late Ernest and Nora (Crehan) Goodspeed. Walter was a graduate of Dorchester High School.Walter was very involved in Boy Scouts in his younger years making the rank of Eagle Scout and becoming a leader. Walter served in the US Navy. He was employed as an Electrician for Conrail for twenty eight years retiring in 2001. Walter was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge in Westfield and the Scottish Rites Bodies of Springfield. He was an active member of Melha Temple Shrine.  Walter was Past President of the Hadji Unit, Westfield Valley Shrine Club and the 21-45 Club. He was also a Past Captain of the Trike Unit, Past Patron of Golden Chapter Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered for many years at the Shriners Hospital.Walter leaves his wife of forty-eight years Jean (Cameron) Goodspeed, two daughters Rhonda Brooks of Westhampton and Tracy Grover of Feeding Hills, their husbands Jeffrey Brooks and Jason Grover, and five grandchildren Avery and Ryan Brooks, and Kiana, Kannon and Kaden Grover. He was predeceased by a daughter Lillian Goodspeed in 1990. Comital with Military will take place Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours are Monday January 9th from 6-8 PM PM at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St. Westfield MA.
