SOUTHAMPTON: Denise (Belanger) Jones, 83, a strong and sweet woman of great faith and caring has journeyed home to God on April 26, 2016. She has been reunited peacefully in light and love with her heavenly family. She, our beautiful angel, will be held forever in our hearts.
She was born in Magog Quebec, Canada and is the daughter of the late Elphege and Rose (Langlois) Belanger.
Denise is a faithful communicant of Our Lady of The Valley Church and a committed member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society.
She attended schools in Canada. She married Nil Gaudreau and moved to Easthampton in 1956 where they raised 5 children. She was known by everyone for her kind and loving nature. She was blessed with artistic talent and made beautiful quilts among many other works of art. Many people went to her to have their clothes altered or tailored, to make the fit perfect just for them. Denise loved to bake and life will never be the same without her chocolate chip cookies.
She leaves her husband of 27 years Anthony Szumowski. Denise and Tony enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Denise was previously married to the late Kenneth Jones and Nil Gaudreau. She was the best mom ever and a loving grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, godmother, cousin and friend.
She leaves her sons; Marc Gaudreau and his wife Rosemary of Clearwater, FL, Richard Gaudreau and his wife Lori of Westfield and Michael Gaudreau of St. Petersburg, FL, her daughters; Linda Gaudreau and Julie Gaudreau both of Easthampton, her stepchildren; Joseph Szumowski of Portland, ME, James Szumowski of Aurora, CO, Marilyn Szumowski of Southampton, Shirley Jones of West Virginia and Mary Jane Jarhling of MO, her brother Serge Belanger of Easthampton and her sister Jocelyne Wing of Southampton, 14 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands and parents she is predeceased by her stepchildren; Susan Boucher, Debbie Szumowski, Kevin and Kirby Jones, her brothers; Jean Paul, Armand and Andre Belanger and her sisters; Doris Jones, Solange and Corrine Lepine.
Her funeral will be on Monday, May 2 at 9:00 a.m. at the Boucher-O’Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant Street, Easthampton followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Valley Church, 33 Adams Street, Easthampton. Burial will be in St. Brigids Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
