Deryck Auger

Deryck Christopher Auger, 66, (1951-2018) of Westfield, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center. Deryck was born in Keene, NH, June 17, 1951, the son of Robert K., Sr. and F. Stella (Dixon) Auger. A 1970 graduate of West Springfield High School, he was employed at various architectural woodworking companies in the area as a Master Craftsman Wood finisher. He finished his career at Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, Georgia, working on the wood interiors of the airplanes. He retired from Gulfstream in 2013 and returned to Western Mass in 2014. Deryck was a member of the Dante Club in West Springfield and enjoyed playing bocce and horseshoes with his high school buddies.

An avid Red Sox fan, he also loved his New York Giants! In 1972 Deryck tried out with the Montreal Expos as a pitcher. An avid golfer, he had the privilege to attend The Masters in 2008.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maryanne (Melchiori), daughter Julia (Jason) LaBarre of West Springfield, son Darrin (Jennifer McCaffrey) of Westfield, and daughter Ellen from West Springfield, and his beloved dog, Lucy. Papa leaves his grandchildren, Milina, Ava and Desmond (Darrin) and Addison (Julia). He also leaves his brother, Robert K., Jr. (Darlene) of Savannah, Georgia; his sister, Sharen (William) Rizy of Williamsburg, Virginia; and his brother, Timothy J. (Michelle) of Richmond Hill, Georgia as well as several nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you for all the love and support from the nurses (angels) of the Sr. Caritas Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital, specifically Katie, Marissa, Kathi, Rachel, Cheryl, Becky, Christina, and Nicole, as well as Dr. Subramoni-Iyer.

The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11:00am followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4:00 – 7:00pm. For more details please visit curranjones.com.
