District 2 Little League 11-year-old championship teams chosen

Westfield National 9, Agawam 0

The District 2 Little League 11-year-old championship on Saturday will feature a battle of two teams from the Whip City. Westfield National was able to make that happen as they cruised past Agawam 9-0 at Paper Mill Field.

Jumping on the Agawam pitching right from the beginning of the game put Westfield National in a great position.

“We came out and put three runs on them in the first, which was a nice start,” said Westfield National Manager Shane Collins.

The three-run bottom of the first inning featured a hit from Anthony Schabowski followed by a groundout RBI from Ryder Pieczarka.

In the third inning, Cam Lisowski doubled and then Shabowski once again drove in a run with his single. Pieczarka then hit a two-run blast to really open up the game.

Westfield National was then able to add on more insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lisowski drove in Nate Goodwin with a double. Cody Collins stepped up to the plate and singled to allow Lisowski to cross home plate. Schabowski produced the ninth and final run with a single that scored Collins.

Similarly to Westfield American, the offense was certainly strong but the pitching for Westfield National was close to match.

Josh Mayo earned the start on the mound as he went the first three innings and struck out seven Agawam batters. Pieczarka finished off the rest of the game with five strikeouts. The duo of Mayo and Pieczarka combined for a three-hitter.

“They had total control of the game the whole time,” said Collins. “We made every play behind them so it was really good to see.”

Collins is more than pleased with his team’s performance and the fact their goal has become a reality.

“We took care of business today, they wanted to get back to the final,” said Collins. “It should be a lot of fun Saturday.”
