Dorothy “Dot” P. (Boyle) Cavagnac-Lovett

Dorothy “Dot” P. (Boyle) Cavagnac-Lovett, 97, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Fox Hill Center in Vernon, CT where she resided for the past several years. Dorothy was born in Westfield, MA to the late Richard P. and Evelyn W. (Smith) Boyle and resided in Westfield for her entire life. She was a 1939 graduate of Westfield High School. During her lifetime she, along with several others, worked to bring their graduating class together for reunions for over 60 years. As a young woman Dot worked for the H.B. Smith Company in Westfield and Gilbert and Barker in West Springfield. In 1944 she married Marcel E. Cavagnac. Their family home at 33 South Maple Street was to be the place where their five children grew and thrived as well as the place where the entire family celebrated many special occasions. Mom loved her home and the property. She was the wallpaper hanger, the woodwork painter and the gardener. Her rose garden was her pride and joy along with the beautiful Spring blooming Shad tree in the back corner and the lilacs which surrounded the home. We, her daughters, are grateful for all that she brought to our conscious thinking directing our lives today: the beauty of a tree, a well-tended garden, the stars and planets, the birds we watch, knowing when to forgive, keeping family close, helping others, realizing no one is perfect, always knowing we had her love, support and respect throughout her life. Dot was a lifetime member of the Church of Atonement in Westfield Although her life was busy with family, she was always a loyal parishioner in service to her church and her community. Dot was involved in many aspects of church life. She was held in high regard for her willingness to offer ideas, contribute constructive criticism and work hard toward success. Her faith in God was a cornerstone in her life. As a woman, she was outspoken, yet charming. As a friend and neighbor, none better. As a Mom, while not perfect…perfect she was. Dot was predeceased by her first husband Marcel E. Cavagnac in 1966. In 1969 she married George D. Lovett who predeceased her in 1998. Her only son Peter R. Cavagnac died in 1994 and his son Nicholas L. Cavagnac in 2003. She is survived by her loving children, Susan E. Maccalous of Biddeford, ME, Mary J. Volsdal and her husband Brian of Tolland, CT, Nancy Nee and her life partner David Ward of Contoocook, NH and Linda Albanese and her husband Nicholas of Manlius, NY, her daughter-in-law Donna Cavagnac of Haverhill, MA, George’s daughter Linda Lovett of Republic, WA, three brothers, Richard Boyle and his late wife Shirley of Westfield, MA, Robert Boyle and his late wife Stella of Milwaukie, OR and David Boyle and his wife Ruth of Westfield, ten grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Luke, Joshua, Anthony, David, Katherine, Claire, Peter and Matthew and four great grandchildren, Griffin, Benjamin, Peter and Cooper as well as her nieces and a nephew. The family gives thanks with gratitude to all those staff members at the Fox Hill Center who cared for our mother with kindness and gentle hands throughout her days there. It meant more than you know. Our mother’s wit and wisdom will be often quoted by various family members, always held close in our hearts and forever missed. Her memorial service will be held on April 6, 2019 at 11am in the Church of Atonement, Court St. Westfield followed by burial. There are no calling hours. Donations in Dorothy’s name may be directed to the Church of Atonement, 36, Court St. Westfield, MA 01085. www.firtionadams.com
