Dorothy M. Darling

WESTFIELD – Dorothy Mae (Crimmin) Darling, 91, (1927-2018) beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend died in Westfield on June 5, 2018 surrounded by family.  Born in Maine in 1927, she was the only child of Wallace L. and Lavinia (Jones) Crimmin.  Dorothy, “Dot” to those who knew her, grew up on the family farm in Pittston, Maine and graduated from Gardiner High School before attending Gates Business College in Augusta, Maine. She met the love of her life, Charles Henry Darling of Westfield when she was 14 and he was 17 while summering in Pemaquid, ME.  They were married on September 11, 1945 in Westfield, MA when he returned from the War.  They lived in Blandford, Roxbury, and Stoughton, MA before returning to live in Westfield for the next 64 years. Together Dot and Henry raised 3 sons. Dorothy rejoined the workforce, in the 1960s, first as a secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Westfield and then as a secretary/medical assistant for Dr. Charles Holt. She later became a licensed real estate agent and broker as co-owner of Fiore and Darling Associate Inc. Realtors and Century Twenty-One Fiore and Darling. Dot retired in 1987. Dorothy was a very warm, patient, caring and generous person. She always made everyone feel welcome. She enjoyed dancing and for many years she was an active member of several square dance groups and she and Henry were co-presidents of the Pioneer Valley Square Dance Club. After retiring, Dot and Henry were practicably inseparable and together enjoyed entertaining, traveling, playing cards, vacations in Florida and Pemaquid, and spending time with friends. Dot found her greatest joy in her family, especially her grandchildren. She leaves her husband of almost 73 years, Charles Henry Darling, her sons Charles L. Darling and his wife Ann Tumavicus of Westfield, Steven R. Darling and his wife Tracy of CT, and David H.Darling of FL; her grandchildren Sydney, Elizabeth, Tianna, Mairi and Charles E.; and great-grandchildren Brooke, Jax, Matthew, and Luke. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday June 12, 2018 from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Firtion Adams Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. followed by a burial at Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield.
