Drop-in ‘Sit and Stitch’ at Southwick Library

SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Public Library is hosting its monthly drop-in Sit and Stitch Wednesday from 6-7:45 p.m.
Held the fourth Wednesday of each month, the program is open to all ages and genders from Southwick and surrounding communities.
Organizer Pat McMahon said the group is very casual and has consisted of up to 10 women since it started a few months ago. Participants are welcome to bring in whatever project they are working on.
“People bring a variety of hand work, from quilting projects to knitting, crocheting, and needlework,” said McMahon.
Some participants even bring in projects in need of some advice.
“We have some people who are experts and people can bring things if they need some guidance,” McMahon said.
The informal group is sponsored by the Friends of the Southwick Library and meet in the library community room.
“It’s a good group and we chat and relax while we work,” said McMahon. “It’s a relaxing hour and a half of your own.”
McMahon, a member of the Granville Quilt and Needlework Guild, said several Guild members participate, but most have joined the group because of word of mouth.
McMahon’s latest venture is a punch-needle rug. She said attending the group helps motivate and inspire her.
“There are women who crochet afghans to give to service organizations – every one comes for a different reason,” she said. “It’s an opportunity for a kind of ‘Show and Tell’.”
