Edwin E. Howe

Edwin E. Howe, 94, passed away on July 7, 2018 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born in East Longmeadow to the late Milton F. and Edna L. (Whitney) Howe, was a graduate of West Springfield High School and attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Edwin served his country in the United States Army during WWII, from 1942-1946. He attained the rank of Corporal and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal.  Edwin was a partial owner of Cantell’s Food Basket in Westfield, then became Post Master for the U.S. Postal service in Blandford and retired in 1987. He also served as the Blandford Town Clerk, Chief of Police, constable and selectman and was a longtime member of the American Legion in Blandford. Edwin was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Ludella “Lu” Ann (Cantell) Howe on August 18, 2017 and a brother Milton F. Howe, Jr. He is survived by his loving children, Edwin C. Howe and his wife Diane of Florida, David W. Howe and his wife Donna, William L. Howe and his wife Tina and James H. Howe, all of Blandford, his cherished 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Alan W. Howe and his wife Sandra of West Springfield and his sister Martha L. Adams and her husband Earl of W. Suffield, CT. There are no calling hours and burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edwin’s name may be directed to the Soldiers Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, MA 01040.
