WESTFIELD: Eileen T. (Kierse) Hurley, 87, (1933-2021) passed away at home on Sunday, April 11, 2021. She was born in Corofin, County Clare, Ireland to the late James and Winifred (Brady) Kierse.
Eileen emigrated to the US with her sweetie and future husband, Paddy Hurley, in the late 1950’s and worked for over 30 years at Old Colony Envelope, retiring as a supervisor. She enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to Irish music in her gazebo, knitting, and playing checkers. Most of all she loved dancing with her sweetie at the John Boyle O’Reilly Club and Sons of Erin. She was a longtime member of the Sons of Erin and its Senior Suds afternoon group with her dear friend Patti Hills. She was also named SOE 2014 Irish Woman of the Year, to which she replied, “Sure, I’m an Irish Woman every year.”
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Patrick J. Hurley, four brothers, Sean, Patrick, Oliver and Alfie Kierse and two sisters, Claire and Mary Kierse. She is survived by her three loving sons, Kerry P. Hurley and his wife Lynn of Longmeadow, Sean M. Hurley of Sheboygan, WI and Dermot J. Hurley and his wife Maura of Westfield, her sisters, Mona Keatinge, Dymphna Funge and Vera O’Connor, all in Ireland, and five grandchildren, Meghan Hurley, Griffin Hurley, Sean Hurley, Colin Hurley and Patrick Hurley.
She would like to thank Sr. Mary Caritas Cancer Center, Trinity Hospice, and her loving neighbor Bonnie Harris for their care and compassion. There will be no calling hours but a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett St., Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen’s name may be directed to the Patrick and Eileen Hurley Scholarship Fund, c/o Sons of Erin, 22 William St., Westfield, MA 01085.
