Elizabeth Cassin

SOUTHWICK – Elizabeth Cassin passed away peacefully on March 24,2018 at the age of 88.  Betsy was born in Burlington, VT, the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Kathryn (Magner) Garrity.  Her first degree was from Notre Dame College in Baltimore, MD. She later received a Master’s degree in music from the University of Vermont and also worked on a Master’s degree in Theology at St Michael’s College in Winooski, VT.  Betsy started her career teaching music in Woodstock, VT and maintained an interest in teaching music for much of her life.  She taught piano for years in Westfield to neighborhood children. She was also a member of the St Mary’s Church choir for many years and sang with the Do-Re-Mi chorus of Westfield. Betsy was also a long time religious education coordinator at St Mary’s church in Westfield and an owner of B F Cassin Insurance Agency. In her retirement she was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program in Westfield, was a Eucharistic Minister for the housebound of St Mary’s church and a member of the Westfield Women’s Club.  Betsy was an avid bridge player to the day she died.  She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake church in Southwick, MA. In addition to her parents, Betsy was predeceased by her husband Bernard F Cassin and her sister, Evelyn Garrity.  She leaves her sister, Joan Garrity O’Brien of Williston, VT and her brother, Thomas Garrity and his wife Elizabeth of Port Charlotte, FL.  She leaves her children,  Kathryn Cassin and her partner, William Nolan of Brattleboro, VT, Bradley Cassin and his wife Kathleen of Westfield,  Margaret Boyle and her husband David of New Bern, NC and Daniel Cassin of Granby, CT, her grandchildren  Maura Cassin McCarthy  and her husband Justin of Springfield; John and Kevin Navolanic of North Carolina and Brianna, Courtney and Makenna Cassin of Granby, CT as well as her great  grandchildren, Margaret and Brigid McCarthy of Springfield.  She leaves her brother-in-law Raymond Cassin of Middlebury, VT and her sister-in-law Jacqueline Cassin-Chapdelaine of East Longmeadow along with many nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 28th at 10 am in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 224 Sheep Pasture Road, Southwick, MA. The burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 pm from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA.
