Ellen (Gonyo) Cook Miles
January 24, 1944-April 25, 2025

SOUTHWICK – Ellen entered this world on a cold January day in 1944, born into a family of six in the bucolic hamlet of Beekmantown, NY. As the only daughter, she was raised on a dairy farm, where she developed a deep appreciation for hard work and community. In her early twenties, Ellen, once the local Dairy Queen, moved to Hilltop Farm in Suffield, CT, with her husband Don Cook and their two young sons, Dan and Todd.

When her boys were old enough, she embarked on a career at the Dexter Non Wovens in Windsor Locks. Her exceptional work ethic and dedication propelled her to travel the world with the Dexter and Alstrom Corporations. In her 40s, Ellen met the love of her life, Jim Miles. Inspired by the passion for community service instilled by her parents, Adrienne and Willard, Ellen and Jim joined the Southwick Rotary, where she remained an active member for over three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. Ellen’s vibrant spirit and infectious laughter touched all who knew her. A dear friend once remarked, “You can’t spell fun without ELLEN,” a testament to the joy she brought into every room.

Ellen is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Dan (Julie) and Todd (Janet), brothers Larry, Joe, Jim, sisters-in-law Beverly, Peggy, and Judy, numerous nieces and nephews, and a world of friends whose lives she enriched with her kindness and generosity. While her passing has left a void in this world, Ellen’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire us all.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her honor. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare providers who offered kindness and compassion during Ellen’s illness. Rest in peace, dear Ellen. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.

Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. on Friday (May 23rd, 2025) at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 624 College Highway, Southwick; with a funeral home service at 3:00 p.m. Ellen will be laid to rest in the New Southwick Cemetery, on College Highway, Southwick. www.forastiere.com
