WESTFIELD – Westfield Public School Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski opened Monday’s School Committee meeting by presenting an “Above and Beyond” certificate to Emmet Morrill for his thirty years as a volunteer and coach in Westfield.
Czaporowski said Morrill, a retired elementary school teacher from Agawam, is a substitute teacher and volunteer assistant coach at Westfield Technical Academy for Boys and Girls soccer, Boys & Girls cross country, and softball. He has also been a sports announcer for football and soccer, and a volunteer Santa Claus for a SkillsUSA fundraiser.
Morrill has also served the community as a Westfield Little League Baseball coach, a Legion Baseball coach; and coach, board member and president of the Westfield Youth Soccer Association.
“Emmet has over 30 years of service working with the youth of Westfield, and I am happy to present him with the Above and Beyond certificate this evening,” Czaporowski said.
“I do go to school every day. It’s the best kept secret. These kids are the finest kids you’ll find any place. Why would anyone not want to go in the school,” Morrill said, adding, “I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, to do something I enjoyed. I just want to thank you.”
Morrill then took a group photo with the superintendent, his family including his sons Tom and Dan and his grandchildren, and some of the cross country students he’s coached at WTA.
