ST. CROIX – Eugene “Joe” Dunnell Bryant passed away at his home on the island of St. Croix, on October 15, 2012. He was born in Westfield, MA on July 12, 1925 and was a resident of Westfield before relocating to the island of St. Croix in 1978, and he was also a part time resident of Granville MA for the last 19 years.
Eugene was the son of the late Ray T. Bryant and Helen Bryant (nee Dunnell) and he graduated from Westfield High School after which he attended Alfred University in Alfred, NY. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, and upon his return became self employed as the owner and president of several successful businesses in both Westfield MA and St. Croix. Eugene loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoying his favorite hobbies; which included, cooking, sailing and wood working.
He was pre-deceased by his cherished wife of 63 years, Janet Mae Bryant (nee Dietz), and is survived by his three children, James, and his wife Cheryl of Grayson GA, Maryellen Brockmeyer, and her husband Wilfreid of Granville MA and Ray, and his fiancé Eileen of Auburn MA. He also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as extended family members and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service, which will be held on Sunday, December 9th at 2:00 p.m. at the Granville Federated Church, 16 Granby Road, Granville MA.
