Southwick Public Library Teen Winter Reading Program

Cozy up by the fire with a good book this winter, and get raffle tickets for a chance to win a prize! The Winter Reading Program works like this – for each hour you read (maximum of 5 hours per week), you can get an entry to put in for your choice of three prizes. You can enter your hours read by filling out a raffle ticket at the library OR by filling out the Google Form available on our website, Facebook page, and Teen Blog (if you enter hours online, you will be asked to note which prize you want your raffle entries for). Prizes will be raffled off at the end of the program. You can enter hours in beginning December 17th, and the last day to enter hours in is by 4:30 pm on January 18th. Winners will be announced on Monday, January 21st. Prizes include a $10 gift card to Dunkin Donuts, a $10 gift card to 5 Below and a mystery prize. Teen Hangout– January 3rd from 2:30-3:30, students in grades 7-12 are invited to Southwick Public Library to try a “mug pizza,” listen to music, play video games on our PS4, or bring in your own favorite game. For questions or for further information, please call (413) 569-1221 ext. 3.

 

SPLAT- January 9th from 2:30-3:20. Meet at Southwick Public Library and use your creativity to help plan events and make the library better for teens! Meet in the community room to brainstorm and snack. This meeting we will be planning spring events at the library. Grades 7-12. “Nothing Day” Hangout–January 9th from 2:30-4:35. Grades 7-12. Nothing Day is a national holiday which is set aside to celebrate nothing. This is the most uneventful day of the year, so to honor it, Southwick Public Library will be showing the most quotable quirky cult classic comedy about nothing. Tater tots provided. Manga Club- January 24th from 3:00-4:45.Southwick Public Library will be watching the anime that was chosen by the group in the December meeting. New to the club? Just ask Heather at Reference to find out what anime was voted on. We will also be eating Japanese snacks during the film. For 6-12th grade. Teen Zentangle® –January 28 from 2:30-4:30 Zentangle® is a fun, relaxing way to create intricate artwork. The instructor, Annette Chittenden, will break down several patterns, called “tangles” which will be used to build each student’s own unique piece! This method is a skill builder for notebook sketchers and artists of all skill levels. All art materials and a light snack are provided. This program takes place at Southwick Public Library for students in 7-12th grade. Space is limited, sign up required. In case of inclement weather, the snow date is February 4th, 2:30-4:30.
